Transporting modular equipment and process units
Preparing modular equipment for transport: shipping dimensions, module and component lists, site access and handover arrangements.
Modular equipment allows process units to be prepared at the factory before delivery to the site. But the readiness of the module at the factory does not mean the readiness of the entire delivery. It is necessary to coordinate its transport configuration, the list of individual cargo items and receiving arrangements. It is especially important to understand where the road transport leg ends and the work of the receiving site begins: this is where the general formulation of “delivery to the site” requires clarification.
Request a drawing of the exact transport position
The project can simultaneously use a general view of the installation, an installation drawing and a transport drawing. For road transport, use the transport drawing or dimensions specifically confirmed by the manufacturer. Ask to see which protrusions remain installed, which are shipped separately, and what is included in the shipping packaging.
Don't assume that an industrial module is a standard container just because it has a similar shape. Siemens Energy modular solutions show different equipment layouts, including units on frames and buildings with installed systems. For a specific product, its weight, dimensions and acceptable handling are confirmed by the manufacturer's documents, and not by external similarity.
List cargo items and their associated components
Each module must have its own identifier that matches the markings and documents. Separately list the associated crates, cabinets, parts and other items that the supplier includes in the order. Indicate which module each cargo item belongs to and when it will be ready for transfer.
If the installation consists of multiple units, ask the receiving team to determine the order in which they arrive. The logistics schedule must take this order into account along with the actual production readiness at the factory. It does not replace the installation plan, but it helps to avoid sending a batch to the site that cannot yet be accepted under the agreed conditions.
Provide the site entrance and unloading plan
It's not just the postal address that's useful for route planning. You need an entry point, contact information for the person responsible at the site, and an up-to-date map of the territory. Check to see if there is consistent information about gates, driveways, and equipment handover points. When a construction site changes, the old plan may no longer reflect the actual situation.
The technical suitability of the entrance and site is assessed by qualified specialists. Methods of unloading, lifting equipment and organisation of work are also agreed by qualified contractors. The customer’s task is to provide data and assign responsibility, and not to calculate safe loads independently. It is better to bring up all unresolved issues for discussion before dispatch the module.
Define the boundaries of the transport service
In the application, record where the cargo is considered transferred, who receives the cargo items and what documents are used for reconciliation. Separately agree on who ensures site readiness and the necessary resources on site. This helps avoid a situation where the sender expects one handover procedure, but the recipient has prepared for another.
For oversized equipment, the permitting stage is considered after the route and parameters of transport with cargo have been clarified. Inlogistics will organise obtaining the necessary special permits and approvals. Changes in the transport configuration of the module after quotation must be reported to the freight coordinator: the initial conditions cannot be automatically transferred to the new weight, dimensions or shipment contents.
Questions about the delivery of technology modules
Can installation dimensions be used for a transport quotation? Only if the manufacturer has confirmed that they correspond to transport condition. Typically, packaging, protruding parts, and items shipped as separate packages will need to be checked separately.
What to do if the final site plan has not yet been approved? Please indicate this when requesting an estimate. A preliminary discussion can begin based on available materials, but the receiving arrangements and the suitability of the entrance must be clarified before the final approval of transportation.
Prepare an application for transportation of modules
Submit shipping drawings, module list, and final site diagram to Inlogistics. Indicate the point of departure in China, expected readiness and required delivery sequence. We will discuss road delivery, taking into account the parameters of each cargo item and information from the receiving team.
