Transporting pumps and compressor units
What to check before transporting pumps and compressor units: condition of the equipment, factory requirements, information about packaging, preservation and acceptance.
To transport a pump or compressor unit, it is important to know not only the weight of the unit. Preparation is influenced by the configuration, condition of the equipment, manufacturer’s requirements for packaging and possible wait before acceptance. It is especially useful to agree on these issues in advance when delivering from China, when the customer, plant and final site are located in different places and exchange documents remotely.
Check which unit is being shipped
The same model name does not always mean the same transport configuration. Please check whether the shipment includes the motor, frame, control cabinet and individual accessories. Ask the supplier to indicate which items are in one package and which are packaged separately.
Each cargo item requires confirmed dimensions and weight with packaging. Attach photographs, manufacturer's designation and documents describing the transport condition. If the unit is installed on an additional structure, it must be taken into account in the shipment information. It is not enough to discuss the selection of transport based on the weight of one main mechanism when a whole set is prepared for departure.
Confirm the manufacturer's preservation requirements
Ask the manufacturer to indicate in writing what preparations have been made before shipment and what conditions must be met before delivery to the recipient. If preservation is envisaged, its documentary evidence, date and storage restrictions are important. You should not replace factory requirements with universal advice from an article or experience in transporting other equipment.
The Atlas Copco Transport Safety Guide for Mobile Compressors emphasizes the need for proper handling and adherence to the specific machine instructions. Therefore, technical preparation, condition checks and any operations with the unit are entrusted to the appropriate specialists. For logistics purposes, the customer needs confirmed information about the result of this preparation.
Describe the packaging so that it can be verified
The phrase "factory packaging" does not explain what the carrier will receive at collection. Please indicate the type of outer packaging, number of pieces, markings and availability of individual accessories. Ask for photos of the completed shipment, not just images of the equipment before it was packed.
Agree which documents travel with the cargo and which are sent electronically. Establish how packaging condition will be recorded at handover. Give everyone involved clear instructions for any special handling, storage or positioning requirements. Qualified specialists determine lifting and securing methods from the equipment documentation and agreed technical plan.
Consider the condition and period before commissioning
For previously used equipment, please report separately on its condition and provide accessible documentation of preparation for transportation. If there is information about fluids or residues, refer them to specialists for evaluation of applicable requirements. Do not independently determine the transport category of the cargo only by the word “pump” or “compressor”.
Check with the recipient whether the unit will be immediately accepted at the site or will remain in storage for some time. Any expected storage or waiting period should be discussed with the manufacturer in the context of its preparation and packaging requirements. The person responsible for receiving must understand which documents to accept and who to contact in case of external damage or discrepancies in completeness.
Questions about preparing pumping equipment
Is it possible to transport the unit without packaging? There is no universal answer. The acceptable option depends on the specific equipment and manufacturer's requirements. For consideration, the manufacturer’s documentation and details of the unit as prepared for transport are needed.
Is it necessary to take into account the preservation date if the road is short? This information is useful to have regardless of your expected travel time. Conditions of preparation may apply both to the period before departure and to the waiting period after arrival; they are confirmed by the manufacturer.
Discuss the delivery of an industrial unit
Send the equipment model, list of cargo items, photos of packaging and route to Inlogistics. Attach the manufacturer's requirements and information about the readiness of the shipment. Based on these materials, we will discuss road delivery and clarify what information still needs to be obtained from the supplier and the receiving party.
