Transporting drilling equipment and rigs from China
Preparing drilling equipment for delivery from China: transport configuration, component inventory, package labels and site receiving arrangements.
It’s convenient to start planning a drilling rig shipment with the question: what exactly needs to arrive at the site so that the recipient can accept the entire order? The general name may cover the main structure, mechanisms, control systems and auxiliary components. If you count only large cargo items, individual units can easily be lost from the overall delivery plan even at the stage of correspondence with the factory.
Obtain transport configuration from manufacturer
The operating layout of the installation and its transportation options may vary. For example, in the NOV land drilling rig catalogue, transport solutions are described in relation to specific models. For your delivery, you need the same substantive response from the manufacturer: which components are transported together and which ones are intended to be sent separately.
Do not plan to disassemble yourself based on the general description of the equipment. The admissibility of dismantling, its scope and order are determined by the manufacturer or authorised qualified specialists. The task of transport planning is to obtain a confirmed list of cargo items after preparation and evaluate it, while maintaining connection with the original configuration of the order.
Turn the component list into a shipping inventory
Create a table that gives each item a clear identifier. Add the factory designation, quantity, package number, weight, dimensions and a link to the corresponding photo. For accessories packed inside another package, identify the crate and which unit they belong to.
Separately mark items that are still in production or awaiting packaging. The wording “everything will be included” does not allow you to check the readiness of the shipment. The register should show specific packages and their readiness. If the kit changes, keep a history of changes and distribute the updated version to all participants in the preparation of the shipment.
Agree on labelling before handing over to the carrier
Photographs and documents are useful when the markings on them match. Ask the supplier to check that the package markings are legible and match the packing list. The same component should not appear under several unrelated names in correspondence, invoices and receiving records.
For partial shipments, determine in advance how the item will be identified as part of the overall order. This way the recipient will be able to distinguish a partial shipment from a completed order. Pay special attention to small related items: it is better to keep track of them using documents and markings, and not according to a promise to transfer “along with the main equipment.”
Check the readiness of the receiving party
Agree where large items are received and where packaged components are placed. Appoint a representative to compare the arrivals with the register and record discrepancies. This should be discussed before dispatch, especially if procurement, site construction and future operation are handled by different departments.
Unloading conditions, site requirements and any installation operations are agreed with qualified contractors. Transportation in itself does not confirm the readiness of the equipment for operation. The manufacturer's documents and delivery contents must be transferred in the agreed order so that the transport stage does not leave the recipient with uncertainty regarding missing components or further work.
Questions about delivery of drilling rigs
Is one total weight sufficient for the entire installation? It is useful for initial description, but the transport solution requires the mass and dimensions of individual packages in a validated configuration. A list of components is also needed.
Who must confirm that equipment can be dismantled? The manufacturer or an authorised technical specialist. The logistics company plans transport using the approved configuration; a general transport article cannot replace the technical documentation for a specific rig.
Send the equipment list to Inlogistics
To discuss the delivery of drilling equipment from China, please send a factory list of components, transport drawings and site address. If the registry is not yet ready, please attach the current specification and list of open issues. This will allow for a substantive discussion of the contents of the shipment and the data that needs to be obtained from the manufacturer.
