When transporting a blade, a difficult section may be a short turn near a plant or the entrance to a construction site. The distance between cities in itself says little about the possibility of delivering long cargo. Therefore, the task begins with the parameters of a specific blade and conditions along the entire path. Inlogistics organises road transport of wind turbine blades and selects a transport solution for the project.

Why length alone is not enough

For initial reference, it is useful to know the model, number of blades and their length. However, the quotation also requires weight, a transport drawing, the position of the centre of gravity according to the documentation and the parameters of the devices provided by the manufacturer. They clarify which supports or frames have already been provided and what is included in the shipping package.

The possibility of transportation is influenced not only by the blade itself, but also by its placement on the selected transport. The final dimensions of the transport configuration are determined after the solution has been developed. A photograph of a similar shipment does not replace documentation: another model may have different geometry and acceptable handling conditions.

How to study the route of the blade

The route is considered from the loading point to the agreed transfer point. Turns, narrow passages, overhead structures, entrances, time restrictions and the condition of the last section to the wind farm are important. It is useful for the sender and recipient to send in advance photographs of gates and entrances, maps of the territory and information about the ongoing work.

Such information helps to identify areas that require additional inspection and approvals. The decision on the possibility of travel is made by specialists within the framework of the project. If infrastructure changes or additional measures are required for travel, these will be agreed in advance with the owners of the facilities and responsible organisations. Inlogistics will organise the receipt of the necessary special permits and approvals for the conditions of a specific transportation.

How to choose special transport

There are different transport systems for blades: horizontal transport solutions, steerable trailers and specialised adapters. Having these options allows you to consider different route conditions, but does not make any blade compatible with any equipment.

Select the configuration using the manufacturer’s documentation, transport equipment specifications and route assessment. Any system that changes a blade’s position needs a separate compatibility check. Confirm the equipment model and its availability during project planning; a solution used for another blade is not automatically suitable.

What to agree with the site in advance

The recipient must confirm the readiness of the entrance, the waiting location, the delivery window and the person responsible for communication with the carrier. It is important to take into account the simultaneous movement of construction equipment and other supplies. Changes at the site after the route has been agreed should be communicated before the shipment is sent, and not when the vehicle arrives.

Loading, unloading and further placement are organised according to the manufacturer’s documentation and the agreed project. The order specifies the contractors responsible for this work, the transport supports required and the procedure for returning them. This allows you to price the road delivery along with the necessary conditions at its beginning and completion.

Frequently asked questions

Is it possible to name the price based only on the length of the blade? Length helps to start a discussion, but does not provide sufficient basis for a final quotation. We need weight, model, transport documents, addresses, loading and receiving arrangements. The composition of the proposal is clarified after checking this data.

Do I need to change transport before entering the site? It depends on the entire route and the chosen configuration. Additional operations are not automatically assumed. If they are necessary and technically permissible, they are separately agreed, included in the plan and reflected in the quotation.

Get a quote for transporting blades

Send to Inlogistics the model and number of blades, transport drawing, weight, factory address and coordinates of the receiving site. Add photos of the final approach and the planned readiness date of the shipment. Based on this information, we will discuss the route, transport requirements and list of approvals for your project.
