In a wind farm's supply list, tower sections and nacelles may appear side by side, but their transport tasks are different. The tower is delivered in the configuration specified by the project, and the design of the nacelle depends on the installation model. It is important for the customer to combine these shipments into a common schedule, maintaining separate requirements for each cargo item. This approach helps you see in advance what components the site needs and what data still needs to be obtained from the plant.

Tower sections: account for each cargo item

Different sections of the same tower may have different lengths, diameters and weights. Therefore, the phrase “several identical pipes” is not suitable for quotation. The supplier shall provide a list of sections with IDs, shipping dimensions, weights and documentation for any supports or adapters provided.

Also list separately supplied fasteners, internal components, packaging and transport supports. Confirm exactly what the carrier will collect and which items must arrive together. Linking these items to a specific turbine helps the receiving team check the delivery against the order.

Nacelles: confirm the transport configuration

The nacelle is a unit that houses the wind turbine equipment. However, the transport configuration is not the same for all manufacturers and models. For example, a modular design may have separate components shipped in different packages. Therefore, for logistics, the manufacturer's information about the supplied version is required.

Request a shipping drawing, weight, handling, packaging and acceptable placement requirements. Indicate the condition of the equipment: new, dismantled or shipped after repair. It is important for the returned item to receive the agreed shipping preparations rather than carry over the original factory delivery conditions without verification.

We associate the order of shipments with the work

The schedule is developed together with the customer and those responsible for the site. It cannot be assumed in advance that nacelles should always be sent last, and all sections should be sent at the same time. The sequence depends on the work plan, available receiving areas, batch readiness and unloading organisation.

Start with a table of package identifiers, factory readiness dates, required delivery windows, receiving contacts and site restrictions. Confirm dates as these conditions are verified. If production of one batch is delayed, assess the effect on the remaining shipments and agree changes with the person responsible for the schedule.

What should be clear before arrival

Before dispatch, the recipient confirms the transfer point, the entry procedure, the waiting place and the readiness of the unloading team and equipment. Different components may require different receiving areas. Their suitability is determined by responsible specialists using the manufacturer’s documentation and the agreed design.

The proposal for transportation includes a specific scope of work and approvals. They separately discuss obtaining special permits, escort if necessary, waiting conditions and return of transport supports. It is important to decide in advance who confirms the external condition and completeness during transfer, as well as how detected discrepancies are documented according to the agreed procedure.

Frequently asked questions

Is it possible to quote for transporting a tower based on its total mass? The total weight is useful for understanding the scale of the order, but transport is selected for each cargo item. The weight and dimensions of the individual sections in transport condition, including the provided supports and packaging, are required.

Is the same transport option suitable for tower sections and nacelles? Such a decision cannot be made based on belonging to one installation. The configuration is considered separately according to the parameters of each cargo item, the manufacturer's requirements and the route. The final plan may include several transport solutions.

Coordinate delivery of components

Provide Inlogistics with a list of tower sections and nacelles, model numbers, shipping documents and acceptance plan. Indicate which components are ready and which are still being produced. We will discuss road delivery, the information required and the order of shipments so that the transportation is related to the real conditions of your project.
